Women should Live with their Choices, says Roboticist, Gentian Venture

This is a part of blog series featuring Women Leaders on the occasion of International Women's Day 2022, and adds to our project Drones for Daughters - that inspires young girls for playing leadership roles in emerging technologies, aviation technologies and future of aerial mobility and bridging the gender gap in these industries.

Professor and Roboticist

Tell us About You! What do you do and where are you from?

I am a roboticist from France based in Japan.

What inspired you to do what you have been doing?

Doing research, which means doing things no one has ever done before in a field that is fairly young and at the edge between fundamental and applied science.

As a leader, what is the most important task that you have taken on your shoulders?

Educating and inspiring the next generation is I think the most important task I am doing in my job. It may not look a big task and many people do it, but I think it is what can make a difference.

This year's theme for International Women's Day is Break the Bias. So what is the most awkward, most uncomfortable bias that you faced and what do we do to change that?

I am both a woman in a man's field and a foreigner in a very homogenous Japanese society, so I face a lot of bias. Many people think that being white is a privilege, but not when you live in Asia!

What's your message for millions of daughters out there who are waiting to get inspired by you?

Live with your choices. The road is never straight and easy but it is important to know what you can do and always aim a little bit higher, and never regret if you missed the target, there will be another opportunity.
